Mustangs Roll in Rochester

Maranatha's boys basketball team staged a thrilling come-from-behind victory over last year's Minnesota state runner-up, Victory Christian Academy, in Rochester, Minnesota, in a game played in the Rochester Recreation Center. Victory Christian led from the beginning doubling the score on Maranatha early and pulling out to a 12 point lead, but towards the end of the the first half Maranatha began to cut their lead. At halftime Victory Christian led 29-25.

Maranatha was able to keep the game close through most of the second half, but trailed throughout until Ian Nichols hit a three-point shot with 2:04 left, giving the Mustangs a two-point lead. On the next possession by Victory Christian, Chase Logan stole the ball at mid-court and raced to the basket for two. Victory failed to convert on the following possession. Maranatha then worked the ball inside and Zach Miller was fouled shooting underneath. Miller hit two key free throws, giving Maranatha a six-point lead with less than 30 seconds left. Victory was unable to convert in their final attempts and the Mustangs won 61-55.

Leading scorers for Maranatha were Chase Logan with 16 points, Taylor Adolphson with 15, and David Parkinson with 10. Also scoring were Matt Bruce with 8, Ian Nichols with 7, and Zach Miller with 4 points. Leading rebounders were Taylor Adolphson with 13, Zach Miller with 9, and Ian Nichols and David Parkinson with 6 each.

Girls Storm to 51 point Victory

It was all Maranatha in the girls game in Rochester with the Mustangs racking up a 57-6 win. Maranatha overwhelmed Victory Christian in every aspect of the game running up a 35-2 lead at halftime. Maranatha's dominance continued throughout the game. Leading scorers for Maranatha were Kerry Clark with 23 points, Chrissy Mulee with 15, and Hannah Nichols with 8. Also scoring were Kayley Bruce with 6 and Nikki Logan with 5 points.
