Mustangs Down Floyd Lighthouse Academy 45-32

The Maranatha Mustangs avenged an early season loss to Floyd Lighthouse Academy Tuesday night in Floyd 45-32. It was the second of three scheduled games between the two teams. Floyd had defeated Maranatha at the Cono Tournament in early December. "Our primary task against Floyd was to shut down their 6' 6" center, Andrew Gibson. Gibson was effective against us in the first period and that kept the game close. Once we limited his scoring, we began to pull away. I believe he only scored two points in the second half," said assistant coach Bill Nichols.

Maranatha held Gibson to nine points in the first period and led 15-13 and increased that lead to 23-17 at the break. Maranatha roared ahead in the third period outscoring Floyd 20-6. In the 4th period Maranatha intentionally slowed the game down and the final score was 45-32.

Leading the way for the Mustangs were Taylor Adolphson with 16 points, Austin Gregerson with 13, and David Parkinson with 7. Also scoring were Matt Bruce with three points, Ian Nichols, Zach Miller, and JD Abell had two each.

Maranatha's next game will be January 23rd against the Des Moines Warriors. The Mustangs will then travel to Rochester, Minnesota on January 30th to face Victory Christian Academy. "Our players are really looking forward to the game in Rochester. Its a special treat for them to play in another state," said girls assistant coach Rebecca Carlson.

Matt Bruce shoots for three against Floyd Llighthouse Academy.
